Who we are

This website, ByteWise IT Tips (“we”, “us”), is available at https://bytewiseittips.com. The data controller responsible for your personal data is Sador, United Kingdom. You can contact us about privacy using our contact page or by email at itt01.gsweighbridge@gmail.com.

Summary

  • You can read every article without creating an account or giving us any personal information.
  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • Optional analytics and advertising cookies are only used where permitted, and you can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings in the footer.
  • If you contact us, we use your details only to reply.

Data we process

1. Server and security logs

Our website is hosted on a static hosting platform (for example GitHub Pages or Cloudflare Pages). When you visit, the hosting provider automatically processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, requested page and time of the request, in order to deliver the site and protect it against abuse. We do not use this data to identify you. Legal basis: legitimate interests in operating a secure website.

2. Contact form

If you send us a message, we receive your name, email address, chosen topic and message. The form is delivered to our inbox by the form-processing service Web3Forms, which acts as our processor. We keep messages only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, and normally delete them within 24 months. Legal basis: your consent and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.

3. Preferences stored on your device

We store your colour theme (light or dark) and your cookie choices in your browser’s local storage. This information never leaves your device. Legal basis: strictly necessary to provide the features you request.

4. Analytics (Google Analytics 4) – optional

If enabled, we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand which guides are useful and how visitors find them. Analytics cookies are set only after you consent (or, where Google’s consent message is used, according to your choices in that message). IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. Data is retained for the minimum period available in our settings. Legal basis: consent.

5. Advertising (Google AdSense) – optional

This website may display advertising served by Google AdSense. When advertising is enabled:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info (US) or www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU/UK).
  • If you have not consented to personalised advertising, Google may show non-personalised ads, which still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent through a Google-certified consent management platform before personalised advertising is used. More information is available in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Legal basis: consent (where required by law) or legitimate interests.

6. Embedded YouTube videos

Some guides include video tutorials from our YouTube channel. To protect your privacy, the video player is not loaded until you click play. Before that, only the video’s preview image is fetched from YouTube’s image server (i.ytimg.com), which receives your IP address but sets no cookies. When you click play, the video loads from Google’s privacy-enhanced domain youtube-nocookie.com; YouTube may then store information on your device and process data as described in Google’s Privacy Policy. Links to our channel open on youtube.com. Legal basis: your action (clicking play) and our legitimate interest in offering video tutorials.

Cookies

The cookies and similar technologies we use are listed in our Cookie Policy.

Sharing your data

We share personal data only with service providers that help us run the website (hosting, form delivery, analytics and advertising, as described above) and where required by law. Some of these providers are located outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, as offered by those providers.

How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes above. Analytics and advertising data is retained according to the settings and policies of Google. Locally stored preferences remain on your device until you clear them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. To exercise these rights, contact us via the contact page.

  • UK and EEA residents may complain to their data protection authority – in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
  • California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and delete personal information and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information. You can limit cross-context advertising by rejecting advertising cookies in Cookie settings or by using a browser that sends the Global Privacy Control signal.
  • Canadian and Australian residents have rights under PIPEDA and the Australian Privacy Principles respectively, including access and correction.

Children

This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, has no user accounts for visitors, and stores no visitor data in a database. Administrator access to the content management system is protected by GitHub authentication.
