About Us

ByteWise IT Tips is an independent technology education website that helps people solve everyday computer, network and online-safety problems without jargon.

Why ByteWise IT Tips exists

Most technology problems are not exotic. A laptop that takes five minutes to start, Wi-Fi that says “connected” but loads nothing, Outlook that stops receiving email, a phone that runs out of storage – these are the issues that eat up people’s time at home and at work. Good answers exist, but they are often scattered across forum threads, outdated videos and vendor documentation written for specialists.

ByteWise IT Tips brings those answers together in one place. Each guide explains what is going on, what to try first, and when to stop and get professional help, in plain English that works for readers in the UK, the United States, Canada, Australia and everywhere else.

How our guides are made

We follow a published editorial policy. In short:

  1. We start from authoritative sources. Steps are checked against official documentation from Microsoft, Google, hardware manufacturers and national cyber security agencies such as the UK’s NCSC and the US CISA. Sources are listed at the end of each guide.
  2. We put safety first. Guides begin with the lowest-risk fixes and clearly warn before any step that could cause data loss or void a warranty.
  3. We are transparent about tools. Drafts may be prepared with the help of AI writing tools. Every guide is reviewed, fact-checked and edited by a human editor before publication, and the editor is responsible for what we publish.
  4. We do not invent experience. We do not publish fabricated product tests, benchmarks or personal anecdotes. Where we compare products, we compare published specifications and explain the trade-offs.
  5. We correct mistakes openly. See our corrections policy.
